AEW talent could feature in NJPW’s G1 Climax this year.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s G1 Climax is one of the most anticipated events on most fans’ wrestling calendars, with the round-robin tournament determining who will challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom on January 4 at the Tokyo Dome.

According to Dave Meltzer, there is talk of talent from All Elite Wrestling featuring in this year’s G1 Climax, with major names already helping to promote the first show in Chicago.

“There is talk of a couple of AEW stars in G-1 this year. AEW is working with New Japan as Bryan Danielson, Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega have done ads for the 7/11 show in Chicago putting over how important and grueling the tournament is.”

G1 Climax 36 gets underway on July 11 at the NOW Arena in Chicago, marking the first time the tournament has taken place on US soil since G1 Climax 29 opened in Dallas in 2019.

Last year’s G1 Climax 35 saw AEW’s Konosuke Takeshita emerge victorious, with ‘The Alpha’ successfully challenging Zack Sabre Jr. for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship ahead of Wrestle Kingdom 20 before dropping the title to Yota Tsuji at the Tokyo Dome.
