All Elite Wrestling’s current top star looks to have suffered a significant injury.
Just over a week ago, WrestlePurists exclusively revealed that MJF was dealing with both an injury to his hip and shoulder following his AEW World Championship match against Jay White at Full Gear. Yesterday, in a now deleted tweet, MJF confirmed the news, writing the following:
“I just got an MRI. I tore my labrum in my left shoulder. I’ll be defending my title at Worlds End. I believe in AEW.”
-MJF
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer provided additional insight into the injury, revealing that MJF is still dealing with discomfort in his hip, although his shoulder is the more pressing issue. He also noted that although surgery won’t be required, MJF is set to undergo stem cell treatment.
“The swelling is down on his hip, but the pain is not down, he’s hurting on the hip. Obviously the shoulder is I guess the more serious of the two. He’s not gonna have surgery. Rehab and stem cell treatment.”
-Dave Meltzer
Meltzer then provided further context to MJF’s shoulder injury, noting that he’d suffered the same tear prior to his bout with Jungle Boy at Double or Nothing 2020 and that the issue he’s dealing with currently is more significant.
“It’s a pretty big tear, he had this exact tear before the Jungle Boy PPV match, the one where they really killed it. He had the same tear, but this tear is worse than that one. So it’s a pretty big tear.”
-Dave Meltzer
As stated by the man himself, MJF is still expected to defend his AEW World Championship at World’s End in December against Samoa Joe, and thus, it’ll be interesting to see how the bout plays out given the circumstances.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on MJF’s injury as soon as we hear more, and we wish all the best to the AEW World Champion in his recovery.
