The former WWE Divas Champion is working on a major project.
Since ending her initial WWE run in 2015, AJ Mendez, better known to wrestling fans as AJ Lee, has largely focused on her writing career, working on her memoir, several comic book series, and a range of television and film projects.
Speaking to Stephanie McMahon on What’s Your Story?, AJ Lee revealed that she is currently writing a film for the iconic Japanese animation studio Toei Animation alongside her Scrappy Heart Productions writing partner Aimee Garcia.
“I love anime so much, and so one of my favorite companies growing up was Toei. They did Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z, and like these things that raised me. And so we are writing a movie for Toei Animation. I think that’s all I could say, but just such a dream come true to be in their office and see, like, all Dragon Ball Z figures everywhere.”
-AJ Lee
Alongside Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z, Toei Animation are also known for producing series such as One Piece, Digimon, and numerous other iconic franchises.
AJ Lee made her return to WWE on September 5 and is now set to team with Rhea Ripley, IYO SKY, Alexa Bliss, and Charlotte Flair at Survivor Series: WarGames on November 29.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on AJ Lee and Aimee Garcia’s Toei Animation project as soon as we hear more.
