AJ Styles doesn’t think WWE will let him wrestle for TNA.

In October, shortly after his capture of the TNA World Championship, Mike Santana reiterated that AJ Styles is his dream opponent, adding that he’d like to defend the title against ‘The Phenomenal One’. However, unfortunately, Styles has now responded to the TNA star by downplaying the likelihood of the match coming to fruition.

Speaking on the No Contest Wrestling Podcast, AJ Styles said that, although he’d like to face Mike Santana, he can’t see WWE allowing him to do the match so they don’t open the gates for main roster stars to go to TNA.

“I get it, man. I really do. I was hoping that this would happen. I really was, but then I realized it probably never could as far as WWE letting me do that. And I’ll tell you why — because as soon as I open those gates for the main roster talent, now everybody’s gonna want to do it. I don’t know if it’s gonna happen, if I’m being honest, but I would like to. Don’t get me wrong. What a moment it was when I was able to go back. But, I just don’t see that match. I don’t see a match happening as of right now.”

However, if WWE were to allow main roster stars to crossover, Styles noted that he wishes he could be the only one allowed to do it.

“It’s NXT that’s got the partnership, not the main roster talent. I wish I could do it. I think I should be the only guy to do it, but that’s being very selfish. So we’ll see what happens in the future. I don’t know necessarily, but we’ll find out together.”

As part of the companies’ partnership, Styles made his return to TNA earlier this year at Slammiversary to endorse Leon Slater after he won the X-Division Championship, although he’s yet to wrestle for the company since he initially left over a decade ago. With Slater and Santana both hoping to cross paths with Styles in a TNA ring, whether WWE allow him to make an in-ring appearance in his former home remains to be seen.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the possibility of AJ Styles returning to TNA as soon as we hear more.
