Could AJ Styles’ WWE career be drawing to a close?
On September 5th, AJ Styles posted a cryptic image of an hourglass to his Instagram story, prompting fans to speculate about his in-ring career winding down and his contract status.
Fightful Select have provided an update on said contract status, having previously reported that the former WWE Champion had signed a one year extension earlier this year, and it has now been revealed that his new deal is set to expire around February of next year.
“Sources close to Styles had indicated that the deal is up around February of 2026, which would have him expiring after the Royal Rumble and before WrestleMania season. Styles has long discussed the possibility of retirement, but hasn’t mentioned it much lately, and his in-ring work hasn’t suffered.”

The report additionally notes that WWE does hope to retain him after that period but that the company will evaluate the situation and Styles’ own interests when the time comes.
Styles joined WWE back in January of 2016 after memorable spells with TNA and New Japan Pro Wrestling, with speculation amongst fans now turning towards the prospect of ‘The Phenomenal One’ making his way to AEW in the near future.
In terms of what’s next for Styles in a WWE ring, Dominik Mysterio mockingly responded to Styles’ earlier social media post, and thus it appears likely that the pair’s battle over the WWE Intercontinental Championship is far from over.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on AJ Styles’ WWE contract status as soon as we hear more.
