Andrade El Idolo Says He Came Up With The Idea Of Taking Selfies With Female Fans During His AEW Matches

Andrade El Idolo discusses adding selfies with female fans to his presentation in AEW.
On the January 24 edition of Collision, Andrade went viral after seemingly stopping for a selfie and giving a fan in the front row his phone number during a match with Magnus. It was later revealed that the woman he interacted with was independent wrestler Sofia Sivan, but, in the following weeks, the AEW star continued to take pictures with female fans in the crowd, with it becoming a regular feature of Andrade’s matches of late. Now, the 35-year-old has discussed his thought process behind the spot.
Speaking to Shak Wrestling, Andrade noted how he added the aspect of taking selfies with female fans as a way to make his heel character stand out among the roster.
“In AEW, I say 90-95%, the wrestlers are amazing. So all wrestlers, ‘I want the best. I want to do the best.’ Always compete and in the matches, too. For example with Kenny [Omega]. Maybe MJF have a match with Bandido. He wants to show this match is better than this match. So I’m thinking I need to do something different. When coming [up with] the idea, I said, ‘Yeah, I’m latino and I look good.’ I know I hear many ladies want a picture with me, but [I’m] a little heel and arrogant. So like, ‘Okay, you want a picture with this handsome guy? Okay, let’s go take a picture.’ People like it and ladies like it.”

Andrade has built up strong momentum since returning to All Elite Wrestling earlier this year. After being cleared to come back to programming in January, the 35-year-old was immediately positioned as one of the company’s top contenders for gold. As a member of the Don Callis Family, the star will be hoping to vie for the AEW World Championship down the line.
As for his immediate future, Andrade will battle Ring Of Honor World Champion Bandido tonight at AEW Revolution. Surprisingly, the Crypto.com Arena will play host to the first ever singles meeting between the two highly regarded performers.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Andrade as soon as we hear more.
