Andre Chase reveals the origins of his red sweater.

In September 2021, Andre Chase debuted his character as a university teacher, recruiting young wrestlers Thea Hail and Bodhi Hayward into Chase U. In its lifespan, the group welcomed changes to its lineup, although one thing that remained largely consistent was Chase’s signature red weather adorned with his school logo. Now, the former WWE star has addressed how his iconic jumper came to be.

Speaking on Between Two Jobs, Andre Chase, now known as Andre Chance, cited Bobby Knight as the influence behind his red sweater.

“Shawn [Michaels] is a big college basketball fan. What became of my red sweater, there was a very outspoken college basketball coach named Bobby Knight. He was crazy. If a call didn’t go his way, he would throw chairs. He choked one of his kids one time. He was just crazy. Shawn knew I was a college basketball fan. When he saw me flip out like that [in promo class], he said it reminded him of Bobby Knight. So he was like, ‘He could be a coach and he could be like Bobby Knight. But we gotta put him in the red sweater.”

Chase’s look became a recognisable feature of NXT after its 2.0 rebrand almost five years ago. After the show focused more on characters, Chase University stood out as one of the most entertaining aspects of WWE’s Tuesday night program.

Unfortunately, Andre Chance confirmed his WWE release on April 24, ending his stay with the company. The 37-year-old is currently available for meet and greets, signings, seminars, and match as he returns to the independent scene.

In the first part of the interview, Chance revealed WWE initially wanted him to be a coach instead of a wrestler. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Andre Chance as soon as we hear more.
