TKO reportedly do have control over WWE creative, although they don’t often use it.

While visiting the University of Alabama earlier this week, the Chief Operating Officer of the TKO Group Mark Shapiro caught the attention of wrestling fans when he stated the company had ‘complete control’ of WWE creative. Coming in response to a question about celebrity involvement in WrestleMania 42, Shapiro noted that the promotion is growing in every way under their leadership. Now, an update has been provided on how much influence TKO have in WWE creative.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, urs believed Ari Emanuel and Mark Shapiro do have the final say in creative, though it hasn’t been a talking point previously as they almost never use it.

“It was noted to us that in the end, Emanuel and Shapiro do have the final say in creative, but they almost never use it. It was said that in this situation, they used it at the most inopportune time.”

Shortly after the former commentator was revealed as the man working with ‘The Viper’ on April 3, reports quickly clarified the call came from Ari Emanuel of TKO, prompting a large amount of the current negative sentiment towards WWE’s parent company from a portion of fans. In addition, there remains discontent among the fanbase relating to TKO’s current ticket pricing strategy.

However, towards the end of the match, Randy Orton struck his supposed ally with an RKO, sparking reports that McAfee had pulled out of the storyline. Elsewhere in the newsletter, Meltzer added to these reports by revealing the former NFL player’s withdrawal from WWE actually changed the outcome of WrestleMania Saturday’s main event. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on TKO’s creative control in WWE as soon as we hear more.
