The former New Day member’s in-ring career looks to have come to a close.

During a recent appearance on Stephanie McMahon’s What’s Your Story?, Big E admitted that his in-ring career is “kind of behind him”, a remark that hit hard for fans still holding out hope for his eventual return to the squared circle.

Fightful Select have now provided an update on Big E’s comments, reporting that multiple sources close to the former WWE Champion have referred to him as having effectively retired when speaking to them.

“In regards to Big E’s comments about his “career being kind of behind him,” on Stephani McMhaon’s “What’s Your Story?” show, multiple people close to him over the course of the last couple of years had referred to him as “retired” or a “former wrestler” when speaking to us.”

Big E’s last in-ring appearance came on the March 11 episode of SmackDown, where he suffered a broken neck after landing awkwardly on the top of his head from an overhead belly-to-belly suplex delivered by Ridge Holland. The incident resulted in fractures to his C1 and C6 vertebrae.

Whilst Big E stated in December last year that he remains grateful to be pain-free following his neck injury, he is still yet to be medically cleared for an in-ring return, and judging by his latest comments, it now appears increasingly likely that such a comeback may never happen.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the future of Big E, and we continue to wish him all the best.
