Brian Cage suffering a knee injury has reportedly changed AEW’s Dynasty plans.

On March 26, Big Bill and Bryan Keith of The Learning Tree emerged as the next challengers for the AEW World Tag Team Championships. However, after it had appeared in previous weeks as if Brian Cage and Lance Archer would get the next shot at the titles, many were confused as to why the company had seemingly moved on from the Murder Machines as contenders. Now, an update has surfaced regarding why AEW had to pivot when it comes to the tag team division.

Per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it’s believed that Brian Cage suffered a knee injury on March 20, meaning AEW had to pause plans for Cage and Archer to challenge for the World Tag Team Championships.

“The tag title match was a change as Brian Cage suffered a knee injury on an independent show on 3/20 in Los Angeles against Chris Masters. So the originally planned but not announced Hurt Syndicate vs. Murder Machines match had to be changed and they had to pivot to new challengers, going with Bill & Keith.”

As yet, it’s unknown as to how long fans can expect Brian Cage to be sidelined and we wish him well in his recovery. With many seemingly interested in seeing the Murder Machines challenge for gold, it’ll be interesting to see whether AEW return to their plans to have them compete for the tag team titles when Cage is medically cleared.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Brian Cage’s injury status as soon as we hear more.
