Chad Gable discusses having ‘bonus surgery’ last year.

After initially suffering a slight bicep tear against GUNTHER in 2024, Chad Gable was sidelined in mid-2025 when it was revealed that he needed surgery. With doctors informing Gable that he had a partial rotator cuff tear, bicep tear, and tendinitis in his right elbow, the star missed over six months of in-ring action. Now he’s back, Chad has reflected on going under the knife, revealing the damage was worse than first thought.

Speaking on a new YouTube vlog, Gable discussed having ‘bonus surgery’ after his bicep tendon was worse than initially believed.

“Surgery went well. Fixed it up just like we were supposed to, but while Dr. Dugus was in there, he found the bicep tendon at the shoulder was pretty much completely shredded to a degree that he did not know because the images don’t always show everything. So when he went in there, the bicep tendon was actually a lot worse than he thought it was. He repaired that as well since he was in there anyway. So, little bonus surgery for Gable here.”

When the 2026 Royal Rumble came around, Gable made his WWE return at number 13, entering the match as ‘Original’ El Grande Americano. Immediately confronting the El Grande Americano that had taken his place while he was injured, the pair kickstarted a feud which lasted until AAA’s Noche de Los Grandes on May 30.

In one of WWE’s most critically acclaimed matches in history, ‘Original’ El Grande Americano lost to his rival in a mask vs. mask match, revealing himself to be Chad Gable. Since being unmasked, Gable has been on a quest to make amends with the masked wrestlers he’d disrespected while playing the Americano character.

Coming out of his mask vs. mask match, Gable has a white-hot momentum in the eyes of many fans. On this, AJ Styles recently said WWE would be ‘dumb’ not to capitalise. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Chad Gable as soon as we hear more.
