Chris Jericho comments on the recent ratings war between AEW and NXT.
Due to the MLB playoffs, All Elite Wrestling moved its flagship show Dynamite to the Tuesday night time slot on October 10, creating the first clash between itself and NXT in over two and a half years. Not one to take this lightly, WWE’s third brand became loaded with main roster stars, as John Cena, Paul Heyman, Cody Rhodes and even The Undertaker made appearances on the developmental show.
On the other side, AEW fans were treated to quality match-ups like Bryan Danielson vs Swerve Strickland and the first outing of Adam Copeland since the Rated R Superstar made the switch to Tony Khan’s company. However, in the end, it was NXT who came out on top on October 10, winning in total viewers and the demo.
To discuss Dynamite’s loss, Chris Jericho told The Messenger that NXT shouldn’t get too far up its own ass about the ratings win, as loading its show with main roster talent would be like an all-star football game in which the legends just barely win.
“You know, you can only bring in Cena and Undertaker and Cody and everybody else so much because nobody wants to work on their secondary show all the time. And it was a fun little, ‘Hey, F-you AEW.’ I didn’t even really worry about it. I told Tony, ‘Well, if you want to fire back, bring in Shaq and Snoop Dogg and those types of guys, Mike Tyson. But Tony didn’t do that. We relied on our show and our guys and our girls, and that’s the way it’s always been for us. This would be like a football game where you bring in all of your top stars from years prior and beat the other team 30-26. It’s like a video game. Let’s bring in Tom Brady from five years ago and then play him for one game against Chris Jericho. OK, you guys won, but you only won 30-26. So, don’t get too far up your own ass because you didn’t do that good of a job as far as crushing us. And our show was better than theirs, quite frankly. So, it doesn’t bother me. It’s competition, man. It’s good for the fans, it’s good for the companies.”

When it came down to Chris Jericho’s involvement on October 10, the Ocho was involved in a squash match with Powerhouse Hobbs in a bout that went under eight minutes and was designed to build up the newest member of the Don Callis Family.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the recent ratings contest between AEW and NXT as we hear more.
