Chris Jericho Reveals AEW Once Looked To Sign AJ Styles When His WWE Deal Was Coming Up

Chris Jericho says AEW previously tried to sign AJ Styles.
Arriving on the scene around seven years ago, AEW was less than a year old when AJ Styles WWE deal came up for renewal in 2019. Given his connection to The Young Bucks, many linked ‘The Phenomenal One’ with a possible move to All Elite Wrestling to reunite with his former Bullet Club stablemates. However, Styles opted to pen a new five-year keeping him with WWE for the years that followed. Now, Chris Jericho has commented on AEW’s previous attempts to bring in AJ Styles.
Speaking to GamesHub, Chris Jericho revealed AEW once went after AJ Styles when his WWE deal was coming up.
“There was a time when we were going after him when his contract was up. Could he be a good fit? Of course he would be. AJ’s a great performer and a great guy. But there is something to be said for the fact that when you’ve worked in the Vince McMahon system for a long time, you think differently. There are ways WWE runs their company, and there are ways AEW runs theirs. I’m not going to speak for AJ, but I don’t know why you’d retire in one place and then immediately go somewhere else. That said, I’m sure it’s always a possibility.”

Following the end of AJ Styles’ WWE career at the Royal Rumble, talk began around whether ‘The Phenomenal One’ would make the jump to All Elite Wrestling before he officially retired. However, the 48-year-old has since taken a backstage role with WWE, and it appears as if his active truly is over.
As for Jericho, the 55-year-old remains absent from AEW having last competed at Dynasty last April. However, despite rumours of a WWE move, the former ROH World Champion remains under contract with All Elite Wrestling for the time being.
Recently, Jericho commented on still having gas left in the tank with regard to his in-ring career. You can read more about that here.
