CM Punk: If I Main Evented WrestleMania Before I Left, I Don’t Think I Would Have Come Back

CM Punk returned to WWE to main event WrestleMania.
After just under a decade away and a tumultuous end to his time with All Elite Wrestling, CM Punk made his return to WWE at Survivor Series: WarGames in 2023, and it appears he was looking to right one of the wrongs from his first tenure with the company.
Appearing on WWE Now to promote WWE 2K26’s release, CM Punk was asked whether his upcoming main event with Roman Reigns after WrestleMania 42 would satisfy the younger version of himself.
“If you think about this, if I main evented WrestleMania before I left, I don’t think I would have come back because I would have done it. What am I coming back for? It’s a little weird, like everything happens for a reason. It’s just one of those things.”

Alongside Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, CM Punk main-evented Night One of WrestleMania 41 last year, with Paul Heyman betraying both Punk and Reigns as he aligned with Rollins to help him secure the victory.
CM Punk is set to defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Royal Rumble winner Roman Reigns in the main event of Night Two of WrestleMania 42 on April 19 at Allegiant Stadium.
Following a fiery promo on this week’s episode of WWE Raw, reports emerged claiming that CM Punk’s words came from the heart despite the company’s plans. You can read more about that here.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on future plans for CM Punk as soon as we hear more.
