CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes Reportedly Not A Street Fight Despite Chairs Listing
CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes reportedly won’t be a street fight.
Tonight, at SummerSlam Saturday, CM Punk will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes in a match many fans have been clamouring for since “The Second City Saint” rejoined the company in 2023. However, earlier today, social media was set alight when a picture shared by CM Punk on his Instagram story showed the bout advertised as a street fight. Now, an update has emerged on whether a stipulation has been added to tonight’s match.
According to an update from PWInsider, it’s believed CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes will remain a straight singles match.
“The commemorative take-home WWE Summerslam chairs for fans tonight feature CM Punk and Cody Rhodes. Oddly enough, the chairs list the match as a Street Fight. In asking around, PWInsider.com is told that the match will not carry that stipulation tonight.”

A street fight would’ve certainly added a new layer to the already anticipated match, but, especially given how high-profile tonight’s bout is, it would’ve been surprising to see the company add the extra element without making it part of their build or announcing it themselves. For now, it appears to be business as usual between CM Punk and Cody Rhodes.
As for how we got here, Cody became the top contender for the Undisputed WWE Championship by defeating Jey Uso on the July 3 SmackDown, while Punk defeated Sami Zayn for the gold back on the July 6 RAW.
It’s worth noting that Cody and Punk featured in main events at SummerSlam 2025, with their show closers coming on opposite nights. Punk defeated GUNTHER for the World Heavyweight Championship on night one, while the second night ended with Rhodes defeating John Cena for the Undisputed WWE Title.
