CM Punk’s WWE RAW Promo Was Reportedly From The Heart Despite The Company’s Plan

CM Punk’s RAW promo was reportedly from the heart.
To open last night’s WWE RAW, fans saw CM Punk march down to the ring to deliver an impassioned promo addressed both his WrestleMania opponent and the company as a whole. The star talked down Roman Reigns, but also echoed fan sentiment around both Pat McAfee’s involvement in the Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes feud and TKO’s ticket pricing for WrestleMania 42. When the dust settled, many fans were wondering how much of the promo was laid out beforehand, and more has surfaced as to how it came together.
According to an update from PWInsider Elite, it’s been clarified that WWE had a plan for what they thought CM Punk might say, though the Chicagoan cut a different promo which came from the heart.
“For those asking about the CM Punk promo last night, PWInsiderElite.com has been told that it was very similar to the original Pipebomb promo, in that the company had a plan for what they expected Punk to say, but then he went out there and cut a different promo from the heart.”

As for whether Punk’s change of direction caused any unrest backstage, it’s believed the fallout was minimal as the content of his promo mirrored the feelings of others.
“We have not heard of any fallout from the promo, but we are also told much of what Punk said mirrors backstage frustration among talent over the last several weeks. We have heard from several talents who have expressed frustration with the fact that tickets are priced so high, that there are so many left for the top show of the year, and that while there are so many available seats, only two comp tickets are being granted to talent for the night they are performing. Anything additional, they would need to purchase themselves.”

Expanding on the notion Punk’s comments reflected frustration from the locker room, the report mentions that talent were ‘throwing their hands up’ with regard to McAfee’s inclusion in the Undisputed WWE Championship program for WrestleMania 42. Similarly to the viewpoint of many fans, it’s believed those backstages felt as if a feud between Rhodes and Orton had enough history to work on its own.
Another key focus coming out of the segment was Punk’s jab at TKO with regard to ticket pricing, with many surprised to hear him call out the company’s ownership on broadcast. In the aftermath of the show, it’s was reported that the line was done as WWE already had plans to address fan discontent about current prices. You can read more about that here.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on CM Punk’s WWE RAW promo as soon as we hear more.
