Cody Rhodes says his SummerSlam match was helped by ‘the lack of a match’ at WrestleMania.
At SummerSlam, Cody Rhodes recaptured the Undisputed WWE Championship from John Cena in a Street Fight. Being a rematch of their poorly-received WrestleMania main event, many were unsure what to expect heading into their second encounter. When it was all said and done, however, the match was given high praise and many agreed that it outshone their original face-off. Now, ‘The American Nightmare’ has suggested that his SummerSlam match with Cena was helped by their earlier contest.
Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, Cody Rhodes said ‘the lack of a match’ at WrestleMania 41 helped his SummerSlam rematch with John Cena.
“It’s MetLife, what a good time. I hate saying this, but part of the beauty of how great that match is was the lack of a match that really took place at WrestleMania in a sense. Sometimes the long game is the game. It’s like going on last, it’s a hard spot occasionally, but the bigger picture — I treat them as the same match and then we just got to use all the bells and whistles.”

Most recently, Rhodes defended his title against Drew McIntyre at WrestlePalooza. Attention now turns to Crown Jewel in Perth, where ‘The American Nightmare’ will take on World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins in a champion vs champion match.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Cody Rhodes’ title reign as soon as we hear more.
