Cody Rhodes was reportedly set to defend the WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre at Survivor Series.

On October 18, Mike Johnson of PWInsider Elite clarified reports on Jacob Fatu’s injury status, revealing that the former United States Champion is currently recovering from a dental procedure. With ‘The Samoan Werewolf’ sidelined for the foreseeable future, a new update has shed light on how Fatu’s absence has impacted plans across the card on SmackDown.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote that Cody Rhodes’ upcoming title defence against Drew McIntyre was initially set for Survivor Series.

Rhodes vs. McIntyre, originally scheduled for Survivor Series, was moved up here because Jacob Fatu, who was originally to face McIntyre on this show, is out of action.”

Rhodes defeated McIntyre at September 20’s Wrestlepalooza Premium Live Event, though the Scotsman has a chance at revenge at Saturday Night’s Main Event in just over one week. Elsewhere on the card, fans will see a new World Heavyweight Champion crowned as CM Punk takes on Jey Uso for the vacant title.

With Seth Rollins and Jacob Fatu now out of action, Dave Meltzer recently revealed WWE’s current plan for War Games. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on WWE’s future plans as soon as we hear more.
