Around two weeks ago, Corey Graves made headlines by airing his frustration with WWE via social media. The 40-year-old was agitated at the company’s decision to move him from SmackDown back to NXT and was pulled from the January 14 edition of the show following his comments. At the time, some wondered whether Graves’ posts were an attempt to get fired from the company, but, with the commentator having since returned to the NXT desk, we now know that’s he’s contracted for many years to come.
Per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it’s clarified that Corey Graves wasn’t using social media as a way of trying to leave WWE, and it’s said that he still has two years left on his current deal.
“He has two years left on his contract. He wasn’t looking to leave the company even though many in the company viewed his tweets as that. Whether Graves goes back on Raw when football season starts in the fall is unknown.”
-Dave Meltzer
Following his re-emergence, it seems as if Graves will remain a permanent fixture on NXT for the foreseeable future. However, as alluded to by Meltzer, Pat McAfee of Monday Night RAW’s commentary team is likely to have to step back from WWE duties when the American Football calendar picks up again and so it will be interesting to see whether Graves returns to the red brand later in the year.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Corey Graves’ WWE status as soon as we hear more.
