Damian Priest Criticises Pat McAfee’s WWE Return

Damian Priest wasn’t a fan of Pat McAfee’s WWE return last week.
The April 3 edition of WWE SmackDown saw Pat McAfee make his return to WWE, revealed as Randy Orton’s mystery caller. The former American football punter is now set to be in Orton’s corner at WrestleMania 42, although both fans and several within WWE itself appear far from pleased with the angle.
Speaking to Gabby LaSpisa on GabbyAF, Damian Priest gave his thoughts on the angle and made it clear that it was not something he enjoyed seeing.
“It sucks. Not a fan. Somebody who knows Pat, get along with him, but for me, that’s not my taste. I don’t think it helps anything. He didn’t need it. So for me, and I’m sure a lot of people aren’t gonna be happy that I said that, but in the locker room specifically, a lot of us weren’t happy, and that’s real. I was asked by some of the younger talent what did I think, and I thought it was bull. We’re a PG show, right? But he could come in and he could throw F-bombs and say whatever he wants. For me, that’s like one of those things that so many other talent, even from one word, could benefit and it’s like, ‘Wow, now they’re up here.’ Instead, you take somebody who’s not even here all the time and gets away with saying something like that, who doesn’t even need it. Not gonna lie, it kinda pissed me off.”

Cody Rhodes is set to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton during Night One of WrestleMania 42 on April 18 at Allegiant Stadium, with Pat McAfee set to be in Orton’s corner, while Jelly Roll appears to be aligned with the champion.
Damian Priest, meanwhile, is not currently set to feature at WrestleMania 42, despite being one-half of the current WWE Tag Team Champions alongside R-Truth.
Earlier today, Dave Meltzer revealed that Randy Orton is currently planned to team with Pat McAfee to take on Cody Rhodes and Jelly Roll at WWE Backlash on May 9. You can read more about that here.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the reaction to Pat McAfee’s WWE return as soon as we hear more.
