Darby Allin dismisses the notion of AEW’s four pillars.

When All Elite Wrestling launched in 2019, fans wanted to seek out young talent they could watch grow as the company progressed. Not long after, Sammy Guevara, Darby Allin, Jack Perry, and MJF were dubbed the ‘four pillars’ of AEW, drawing inspiration from the pillars of 1990s All Japan Pro Wrestling. However, Allin has now pushed back against the idea they were the key names in establishing Tony Khan’s company.

Speaking with TMZ Sports, Allin said he doesn’t like the four pillars name as it doesn’t acknowledge the contributions of everyone in AEW as a whole.

“I really don’t concern myself honestly too much with that term. I really don’t like that term, Four Pillars, because I believe it takes more than four to actually get this thing up and going. The beauty to me with being on the ground level of AEW is you could see when the company got to the highest points, it was just through us. Not through us as in the Four Pillars, but through everybody on the roster working together because this wasn’t a machine that was built years and years and years ago. This was only in 2019. So the fact that we got to 81,000 plus people at Wembley is incredible. And I think people really don’t stop and think about that. As high as we go and then as low as we go, and now we’re going back up, it’s so rewarding when you’re a part of something from the ground up and it truly feels like your baby because you can’t have an ego with this. When there’s egos, that’s when the ship starts to sink. But if we all work together, it pulls it up and you can feel that energy. So that’s why it’s important for me to lead by example more than anything, and not have any ego with anything.”

MJF became the first of the four to win the AEW World Championship in November 2022, though he remains the only pillar to hold the title. During his first reign, the 30-year-old defended his gold in a four-way match against Guevara, Allin, and Perry at Double or Nothing 2023.

Although he hasn’t yet reached the mountaintop, Allin is hoping to earn another shot at the company’s top title this Sunday. Should the former TNT Champion be able to defeat Andrade at Dynasty, he’ll be in line for an AEW World Championship match regardless of who walks out of the Rogers Arena with the gold.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Darby Allin as soon as we hear more.
