The former AEW World Champion is expected to return sooner rather than later.

MJF has been absent from All Elite Wrestling since dropping the AEW World Championship to Samoa Joe at Worlds End on December 30th last year, with the 28-year-old having been working through several injuries up until that point.

Fightful Select have now provided an update on his status, revealing that discussions have taken place over his return to AEW TV, with this being expected to happen sooner rather than later.

“We can’t speak to a certain date, but discussions have happened regarding MJF making an on-screen return to All Elite Wrestling. How it will look, alterations in presentation and the like have all been broached between MJF and AEW. There are several sources within AEW that believe that he could be coming back sooner than later, with most expecting him back in the fold by Forbidden Door in New York, if not sooner.”

Despite insisting that his AEW contract was still set to expire on December 31st, 2023, MJF has reportedly re-signed with the promotion, and whilst the majority of details remain unclear, Fightful note that he’s now amongst the highest earners in AEW.

Regarding discussions about MJF having undergone shoulder surgery, Fightful note that they’re yet to hear that that’s the case, although the former AEW World Champion had been dealing with a number of injuries that he’ll have needed to thoroughly rehab prior to his return.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on MJF’s impending AEW return as soon as we hear more.
