The Mysterio name isn’t weighing down ‘Dirty Dom’.

Dominik Mysterio is undeniably one of, if not the, most improved wrestlers in WWE today. Whilst many initially viewed the son of WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio as a classic case of nepotism, The Judgement Day member has carved out his own lane as one of the company’s most detestable heels.

Speaking to Wide World of Sports during WWE’s recent trip to Perth, Dominik revealed that the weight of carrying the Mysterio name is something that motivates him to cement his place amongst the greats.

“I don’t really feel the pressure. When it comes to being a multi-generation family in the industry and having the Mysterio name and everything he’s done, I never really took the pressure in a bad way. It almost motivated me and made me want to go out there and have fun. Now when people talk about the Mysterios, they talk about me as well which is really cool to see. It’s also very hard to be able to sit down and smell the roses while you’re constantly on the go – it’s non-stop what we do, it’s 365 days a year. So whenever I can, I try to enjoy those special moments – for example at SummerSlam, beating AJ Styles or winning the title at WrestleMania. We don’t get many of those moments, but we live for these types of moments. It’s cool to be five years into my career and already have so many moments.”

Mysterio currently holds both the WWE Intercontinental Championship and the AAA Mega Championship, with the self-proclaimed ‘King of the Luchadores’ most recently defending the latter at AAA’s Héroes Inmortales on October 25 against Dragon Lee.

In terms of what might be next for Dominik Mysterio, Dave Meltzer recently revealed that WWE has discussed the possibility of John Cena winning the Intercontinental Championship at Survivor Series. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on future plans for Dominik Mysterio as soon as we hear more.
