Eva Marie has reflected on her second stint with WWE.
After initially being with the company from 2013 to 2017, Eva Marie re-signed with WWE in October 2020. Officially returning to our screens eight months later, the star would be paired up with Piper Niven, who Marie renamed as Doudrop, and she’d go on to compete in a total of seven matches during her second run. Now, Eva has looked back on her more recent WWE tenure, revealing she actually wrestled way more than she was originally meant to.
Speaking on Daria & Toni Unwrapped, Eva Marie discussed how she was only meant to be a mouthpiece for Piper Niven when she returned in 2020.
“The story and trajectory of me coming back was going to look a certain way. I was just supposed to be a mouthpiece… I was like, ‘Amazing.’ Because then at some point in time, I would end up getting my sh*t beat up, but not for a minute. It also was building Piper because she’s a stud and also she can wrestle, she could get down, and be my muscle. So that was kind of how it was supposed to go. But then it got switched on a dime and I wrestled way more than ever that I was supposed to. I wrestled more in that little snippet than I even thought that was going to happen. I had a SummerSlam match and it was on a whim and I’m like, ‘Huh?’”
-Eva Marie
As mentioned, Marie wrestled Alexa Bliss at SummerSlam 2021, which was match five of her seven during the year. Her final two matches were both defeats against her former protégé Doudrop, and the 41-year-old is yet to make another wrestling appearance since being released almost exactly four years ago.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Eva Marie as soon as we hear more.
