Goldberg has nothing but praise for the World Heavyweight Champion.
On July 12, at Saturday Night’s Main Event, Goldberg had his last match when he stood toe to toe with ‘The Ring General’ GUNTHER. However, the 58-year-old was left displeased with the overall presentation of his final outing when WWE had to cut away from his farewell speech due to time constraints. Now, Goldberg has expressed how, even though some parts of his retirement didn’t go to plan, he doesn’t want that to reflect badly on his opponent.
Speaking to Justin Barrasso, Goldberg called being able to wrestling GUNTHER an honor and a privilege.
“Wrestling Gunther was an honor and a privilege. Don’t let my displeasure in any way, shape, or form reflect upon my opponent. I wish I could do it again. That’s how much fun it was. I always say that I never bask in the moment – but that’s exactly what happened when I laughed after Gunther chopped me. It wasn’t because I wanted to step on his offense – it’s just that I was having fun. It was just a reactionary thing. I normally don’t have that much fun.”

With Goldberg’s career now behind him, the legend can look back on four world titles across WCW and WWE, including his last Universal Championship run which came as recently as 2020.
Goldberg isn’t the only star who’ve recently heaped praise on ‘The Ring General’, with CM Punk also emphasising how much he’s looking forward to sharing the ring with the World Heavyweight Champion at SummerSlam.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Goldberg’s retirement as soon as we hear more.
