Ilja Dragunov To Wrestle “Speedball” Mike Bailey On October 21 AEW Dynamite

Ilja Dragunov’s first AEW match is set.
At WrestleDream, Ilja Dragunov made his first AEW appearance, and he’s wasted no time in getting to work. As part of the post-show media scrum, Tony Khan announced the star would make his in-ring debut on the October 21 Dynamite, although fans weren’t immediately told who he’d be facing. Now, Dragunov’s first opponent has been revealed.
In a social media post, AEW President Tony Khan announced on Tuesday that AEW’s newest signing, Ilja Dragunov, will make his in-ring debut for the company against “Speedball” Mike Bailey on the next Dynamite from Coral Gables, Florida.
Both Dragunov and Bailey have a short history working against one another. The two have taken part in two matches, including one singles from way back in the 2016 wXw 16 Carat Gold tournament, which Dragunov would end up winning. Ten years after their first meeting, these two will do battle once again.
Ilja made his debut on Saturday night, coming out to a chorus of elated fans in Orlando. The former WWE United States Champion was long anticipated to join the promotion following his departure from WWE earlier this year. Recently, Dragunov spoke on whether he knew the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal would be his last match in the company. You can read more about that here.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on AEW’s plans for Ilja Dragunov as soon as we hear more.
