Jacques Rougeau Was Nearly Kicked Out Of AEW Redemption

The man once known as The Mountie reportedly through a tantrum backstage at AEW Redemption.

With AEW Redemption being held in Montreal, Canada, the promotion chose to honour the legendary Rougeau wrestling family on its pre-show. At the event, Ray and Jacques Rougeau were presented to the crowd by fellow French-Canadian star, “Daddy Magic” Matt Menard. The brothers would be interrupted by Rocky Romero, who claimed that the only family that matters is The Don Callis Family. Predictably, Romero got on the wrong side of the Rougeaus with this comment and was taken down by the legends.

As it turns out, Jacques Rougeau may have got on the wrong side of AEW management prior to the show. Having told the company he would prepare a video highlighting his family’s history, Jacques’ effort was reportedly not up to scratch, causing tension before the show.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer explained the issues with Jacques’ video package and how the situation escalated:

“Jacques told AEW he’d take care of that. He gave them a video to play. Unfortunately, the video was too long, had footage that AEW didn’t have rights to, music that AEW didn’t have right to and some AI stuff in it that AEW didn’t want to use. There was no way it could be used and now it’s the day of the show with no time to do anything else, so there was no video. Multiple sources said Jacques was throwing a tantrum backstage over that. He was told by one AEW official to calm down or they’d have to kick him out.”

Jacques Rougeau is best known for his run in WWE, where he won the Intercontinental Championship as The Mountie. He is also a three-time WWE Tag Team Champion as one half of The Quebecers alongside Pierre Ouellet, who is better known as PCO today.
