AEW’s Jamie Hayter feels there’s more to be done to change women’s wrestling for the better.

Over the last 10 years, women’s wrestling has become far more prominent in the western world. We saw the first women’s match to main event a WrestleMania in 2019, with the division gaining access to match types like the Royal Rumble and War Games which had previously been exclusive to the men. However, while there have been changes to the way major companies are presenting women’s wrestling, Jamie Hayter maintains there’s still a lot more left to be done.

Speaking to Soundsphere Magazine, Hayter discussed how there’s still much more to do to elevate women’s wrestling, noting how women are often scrutinised much more than men in the ring.

“There’s been a lot of changes for the better, but I can’t sit here and be like, ‘It’s so great now!’ because there’s just so much more work that can be done. But I can’t say that there haven’t been changes, because there have – and all the women have worked so hard for them. But there’s still stuff to be done. I feel like as a woman, we are probably under the microscope a lot more than men are. If you have a bad match, then it’s like ‘Oh my god, you’re the worst wrestler ever’. Whereas a guy could have a bad match and it’s like, ‘Oh well’. Or, if you don’t look a certain way, then they don’t like that either.”

While Hayter’s statements are by no means company specific, 2025 saw AEW hold the first women’s Blood And Guts match, coming after years of fans asking for the women’s division to take part in the stipulation. From there, many are hoping the company will hold a Continental Classic for women’s division down the line.

While AEW has had some major women’s storylines during its history, the promotion are yet to have a women’s match main event a pay-per-view. While that isn’t currently set to change at this weekend’s Revolution event, Women’s World Champion Thekla is set to defend the gold against Kris Statlander in a two-out-of-three falls match this Sunday.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Jamie Hayter as soon as we hear more.
