Je’Von Evans Was “Marking Out” Over Wrestling Penta In May

Je’Von Evans was excited to take on Penta after watching him in Lucha Underground.

Since signing with WWE in 2023, Je’Von Evans has gone from strength to strength. He became a major part of NXT programming during his time on the developmental brand before wrestling on the night of John Cena’s final match and soon after joining the RAW roster. A recent match on the red brand may have marked another major milestone for the 22-year-old.

Speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Je’Von Evans explained how wrestling Penta for the Intercontinental Championship on the May 25 episode of Monday Night RAW was particularly exciting for him as a fan of the luchador’s work outside of WWE.

“It was actually such a great match, bro. That was my first time going against Penta. I was marking out because I’ve always watched Penta, especially in Lucha Underground. I was just going crazy like, ‘I’m about to go against Penta!’ I was just so nervous about taking his chops because you know his chops on Lucha Underground is so loud. It was great. I was just there like, ‘Come on, let’s go. Just do it.’”

Penta began his career in AAA before his work in Lucha Underground introduced him to a wider audience in the United States and beyond. His career also included runs in TNA, PWG, and, most recently, AEW, where he became a former tag and trios champion.

Evans, meanwhile, joined WWE much earlier in his career and has had less time to establish himself outside of the company. Despite that, he has already built a pedigree on the independent scene, including a reign as DPW Worlds Champion in Deadlock Pro.
