Jim Ross Reveals He’s Set To Undergo Brain Surgery Next Wednesday

Jim Ross reveals he’s having a shunt put into his brain next week.

With over 50 years of experience in the wrestling business, Jim Ross is seen by many as one of the most storied and respected figures today. In recent years, the 74-year-old has unfortunately battled many health issues which has slowed down his commentary appearances, and, as a result, JR has now announced he will be going under the knife soon to alleviate some of these challenges.

Speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, Ross explained the procedure he is scheduled to have in the next week.

“I got a big week coming up. My surgery is this Wednesday in Norman. I don’t want to say I’m looking forward to it, but I guess I really am to get to that point and get it over with. I have never had brain surgery before. I’m getting a shunt put in my brain. They say I’m only gonna be in the hospital for a day, so that surprised me and made me happy. I would’ve guessed longer.”

Ross has held numerous jobs in the wrestling business, being notable as the leading voice of WWE’s Attitude Era. He worked with the company on and off from 1993 to 2019, and has been with All Elite Wrestling since their inception almost seven years ago, where the 74-year-old most recently appeared at Double Or Nothing 2026, being on the announce team for Jon Moxley vs. Kyle O’Reilly.
