‘Good Ol’ JR’ is not expected to be involved in John Cena’s upcoming retirement tributes.
With John Cena’s final appearance as an active WWE Superstar rapidly approaching, many fans have begun to speculate about whether some of the most influential figures from his storied career will feature in the weekend’s tributes. Among the names frequently mentioned is WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross, although it appears he is not set to be involved in the celebrations.
During the latest edition of his Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross was asked whether he had been contacted by WWE to be involved with John Cena’s retirement tour in any capacity, and revealed that he had not. He added that if WWE had reached out to him, he believes Tony Khan would have given him the go-ahead to take part.
“No. Are you kidding me? Why would they do that? It’s wrestling. I don’t work for them, but I would have been happy to do it. I’m sure that if they had requested something that Tony Khan would have blessed it because he’s a wrestling fan. And if he and the powers that be thought that I could help out a little bit, I’d love to be a part of it simply because John Cena was one of my guys.”
-Jim Ross
On top of being one of professional wrestling’s greatest commentators, Jim Ross also previously served as a talent scout for WWE and is credited with bringing John Cena, as well as Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar, to the company.
Ross currently serves as a commentator, analyst, and senior advisor for All Elite Wrestling, with the man himself confirming back in August that he had signed a new one-year deal with the promotion.
The Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. will host Saturday Night’s Main Event on 13 December, with former World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER taking on John Cena in what will be the latter’s final match.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the possibility of Jim Ross being involved in John Cena’s retirement tour as soon as we hear more.
