John Cena says he sees shades of his younger self in Dominik Mysterio.
Yesterday’s episode of Monday Night RAW featured John Cena’s final appearance on the red brand ahead of his retirement next month. The seventeen-time world champion opened the show, only to be interrupted by Dominik Mysterio, who arrived looking to secure a rematch for the Intercontinental Championship.
Ahead of the show, John Cena joined Sam Roberts and Megan Morant on the Raw Recap podcast, where he expressed gratitude for having shared the ring with Dominik Mysterio. Cena went on to note that the now-former Intercontinental Champion reminds him of a younger version of himself.
“Incredibly grateful for the ability to get in there with Dom Mysterio, who I respect and admire. He reminds me a lot of me, and he reminds me a lot of the mistakes I made. Like, I can see all of the mistakes that are about to happen with him, and I want to shake him and be like, ‘You’re going to do this,’ but I want him to learn for himself. He is authentic. He’s reliable. He works hard, and he’s passionate about the business. He’ll learn, he’ll figure the rest out.”

Cena defeated Mysterio on November 10 to capture the Intercontinental Championship for the first time in his WWE career, officially completing the Grand Slam.
Whilst Cena initially challenged Mysterio to a rematch during last night’s show, Dominik instead chose to wait until Survivor Series: WarGames on November 29.
The pair would still square off in six-man tag team action, however, as Cena teamed with Sheamus and Rey Mysterio to defeat the Judgment Day trio of Dominik Mysterio, Finn Bálor, and JD McDonagh in what would be his final ever outing on RAW.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on John Cena’s retirement tour and future plans for Dominik Mysterio as soon as we hear more.
