There is no time for John Cena to dwell on the past.

On March 1, the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada hosted one of the most shocking moments in WWE history. After winning the Men’s Elimination Chamber match to secure a WWE Championship opportunity at WrestleMania 41, John Cena turned heel, aligning with The Rock and Travis Scott in an attack on Cody Rhodes. Cena went on to defeat Rhodes at WrestleMania with help from Scott, although most of his heel run beyond the initial turn featured no involvement from either man.

Appearing on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Cena was asked about the original plans for The Rock and Travis Scott following his heel turn, though he chose not to dwell on what might have been.

“Who cares? It doesn’t matter. We can talk about what could have been until the cows come home. And I think that’s what’s great about the people who are left standing. Certainly me and Cody. What’s the change? this? All right, let’s go. I don’t dwell for one second on what could have been, because what could have been is Brock doesn’t leave for the NFL and there’s no John Cena.”

While The Rock has previously said that he stepped back from his on screen role in the storyline because he felt his ‘Final Boss’ chapter was complete and wanted to give Cena and Rhodes the spotlight, his demanding Hollywood schedule was also likely a major factor in his absence.

Travis Scott, meanwhile, is reported to have had a falling out with WWE, with commitment issues cited. The multiple time Grammy Award nominee was originally slated to be included as a downloadable character in WWE 2K25 before being replaced, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

John Cena’s legendary WWE career will come to an end on December 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C., where he will face former World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the original plans for John Cena’s heel turn as soon as we hear more.
