Omega wants to solidify the future before stepping away from the ring.

When the question of who the all-time greatest professional wrestlers in history are is raised, Kenny Omega is undeniably part of that conversation. Following his hiatus due to his battle with diverticulitis, fans have begun to consider what AEW and professional wrestling as a whole may look like when he eventually decides to call time on his career for good.

In an interview with Shakiel Mahjouri, Omega opened up on his ideal retirement scenario, stating that he wants to walk away from the ring with no regrets and with the confidence that AEW will have created enough stars that fans are not saddened by his absence.

“I would like to be in a situation where I left the ring not having any regrets and not feeling embarrassed or that I tarnished my own reputation. I would like to leave when I have some semblance of athleticism left in my body. I don’t want to completely work until the wheels fall off and that the person that leaves wrestling is one that barely resembles the Kenny Omega of old. I’ve been thinking a lot about when that timing would be, and one important thing for me, too, is when I finally do leave, whenever that may be, I don’t—and this might sound odd—but I don’t want people to be sad. In fact, the best case scenario for me would to be that they don’t realize I’m gone at all. I would love to build people or have the peace of mind that the company has built enough stars so that their star is shining bright enough to distract from me stepping away from the scene. That would make me the most happy.
