An update has come out on Kenny Omega’s recovery timeline and what the original hope was for Wembley Stadium.
Late last year, Kenny Omega was diagnosed with diverticulitis after being taken to hospital. The news shocked wrestling fans, and attention rightly focused on his health, but, when he returned to Dynamite to play a role in The Elite’s storyline, many wondered whether this was a tease of things to come. Now, an update has emerged regarding Omega’s condition and what the hope was for his return.
Per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it’s believed that the original aim for AEW was to have Kenny Omega face Kazuchika Okada for the Continental Championship at Wembley Stadium, however the Canadian’s recovery from surgery will see him miss the London spectacle.
Obviously the hope was Kazuchika Okada vs. Kenny Omega for the Continental title. Omega underwent surgery on 5/16 and the usual recovery period is four months, so in theory he’s going to fall a few weeks short of making it. And his health situation was far worse than most who have hernia surgery.

Omega came face-to-face with Okada on the May 1 edition of AEW Dynamite, and even took some offence at the hands of Jack Perry. While this may be capitalised on in future, the next instalment in their iconic series won’t be at Wembley Stadium this summer.
With it noted that his health was worse than most, we continue to wish Kenny Omega the best in terms of his recovery from surgery, and hope to see him return to the ring as soon as it is possible.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Kenny Omega’s recovery from surgery as soon as we hear more.
