Angle disagrees with the notion but admits he was a quick learner.
After signing a five-year deal with the WWF in 1998, Olympic gold medallist Kurt Angle began his professional wrestling training at the Funkin’ Dojo in Stamford, Connecticut, under Dory Funk Jr., ahead of his debut the following year.
Despite several figures in the industry suggesting that Angle did not need professional wrestling training due to his Olympic background, the WWE Hall of Famer has now dismissed that notion in an interview with Going Ringside.
“I needed training. They’re just being nice. But I picked up on it relatively quickly. I only trained for about seven months before I went on TV, which is literally almost impossible and to be honest with you, I didn’t know what the heck I was doing. My opponents had to leave me in the ring and call the whole entire match when we were out there wrestling. So I learned from- I had to catch on. I was learning while I was still performing, and I was getting better and better every week and literally I became one of the best in the business probably two years into it.”

Angle’s in-ring career came to an end at the hands of Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35 on April 7, 2019. The former WWE Champion has made occasional appearances for the company despite his release in 2020.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Kurt Angle’s future plans as soon as we hear more.
