Leon Slater’s Record Title Reign At Risk Of Being Erased At TNA Lockdown

Cedric Alexander has agreed to give Leon Slater a rematch for the TNA X-Division Championship, but with a condition attached.

The segment aired on the August 13 episode of Impact from the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, immediately after Ricky Sosa defeated Brian Myers in singles competition. Myers had his fellow System stablemates Cedric Alexander and Bear Bronson at ringside, and in the closing moments, he reached for Alexander’s X-Division Championship to use as a weapon against Sosa. Leon Slater stopped him before he could, allowing Sosa to capitalise on the distraction and pick up the win.

Leon Slater then called Cedric Alexander out over his repeated refusals to grant him a rematch, saying he would give whatever it took to get another shot. Alexander accepted, but on the condition that if he retains the title, Slater’s historic X-Division Championship reign will be erased from TNA history as though it never happened. Slater took a moment to consider the stipulation before agreeing. The match will take place at Lockdown on August 23 at Credit Union 1 Arena in Chicago, Illinois, with every match at the event contested inside a steel cage.

Slater won the X-Division Championship from Moose at Slammiversary in July 2025, becoming the youngest champion in the title’s history at just 20 years old. Cedric Alexander challenged him for the championship twice during that reign, coming up short at Emergence on August 15, 2025, and again at Rebellion on April 11 of this year.

Cedric Alexander finally got it done on the May 14 episode of Impact, defeating Leon Slater in a two-out-of-three falls match to win his first championship in TNA. Slater’s reign ended at 298 days, tying Austin Aries for the longest X-Division Championship reign in history.

One more day as champion would have moved Slater into first place outright as the longest-reigning X-Division Champion of all time. He has pursued the title ever since, falling short at Slammiversary in an Ultimate X match alongside Frankie Kazarian, Mr. Elegance, Fabian Aichner, KC Navarro, and Amazing Red, where Alexander pulled the championship out of Slater’s hands to retain.

Now, Leon Slater has the chance to reclaim the championship one-on-one inside a steel cage at Lockdown, with his record-setting 298-day X-Division Championship reign at stake.
