Luis Mante Is Revealed As MPI In NOAH

The identity of MPI has been revealed.

Longtime Dragongate wrestler Luis Mante was revealed to be the “Mysterious Phantom Invader” during Pro Wrestling NOAH’s “Legacy Rise” event on Thursday.

Following the MPI’s tag team match which saw him and Shuji Kondo beat HAYATA and Naomichi Marufuji, the enigmatic man took off his mask to reveal he was the former Open the Dream Gate Champion.

Mante has made a number of appearances for NOAH over the past few years, so the NOAH fans knew exactly who he was. Mante was received by the fans very well. He would go on to challenge Marufuji for the GHC National Championship, and that match has been confirmed for NOAH’s Wrestle Odyssey II on October 25.

Following his appearance, Mante would take to his social media to introduce himself to new fans and underline his championship intentions.

“Were you all surprised!? To everyone seeing me for the first time, nice to meet you! My name is Luis Mante I’m sorry for suddenly barging in as the mysterious masked man MPI. When there’s something you really want, you sometimes have to act cautiously. My goal is clear! The GHC National Championship in Marufuji’s hands. Marufuji, now that I’ve taken off my mask, let me ask you something. Did you really know my true identity!?”

-Luis Mante

Luis Mante began his career back in 2007 where he worked primarily in his native Mexico for AAA and later CMLL for most of his first decade. His career would change forever in 2018 when he started working at the Ultimo Dragon Gym. Finally in 2019, Mante, then under the Diamante moniker and mask, would make his debut for Dragongate.

During this run with Dragongate, Mante has held the Open the Triangle Gate trios Championships three times, the Open the Twin Gate tag belts once, and most importantly, the Open the Dream Gate Championship. He has also been in three mask matches (apuestas) during his run, two of which he won, and one where he finally lost his mask.

While his career in Dragongate has been fruitful to a large degree, one thing that has become more abundantly clear over the past year or so is that DG hasn’t had many ideas for him of late. He has not been in any faction since Big Hug ended over a year ago, and he’s constantly used as a general babyface character.

It will certainly be interesting to see how Mante will fit in with NOAH’s roster, and how this may or may not affect his affiliation with Dragongate.
