Matt Cardona says he can’t make his remaining independent bookings.
On the January 2, edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Matt Cardona made his return to WWE as he took on Kit Wilson. Having made a one-off appearance in the Last Time Is Now Tournament under his ‘Zack Ryder’ name, it was confirmed shortly after his match on SmackDown that Cardona had signed a full-time contract with the company. Now, the 40-year-old has addressed what this means for his bookings elsewhere.
Speaking on NotSam Wrestling, Cardona told Sam Roberts that returning to WWE means he can’t do his remaining independent dates.
“I was booked until the summer. If I took every indie date that I agreed to, I wouldn’t be able to be in WWE. It’s as simple as that. It’s not like I had like one or two. I’m literally booked every weekend until the summer. Any promoter who gave me a deposit, they’ve already been taken care of, you know what I’m saying? And everybody understood.”

Cardona was known as ‘The Indy God’ outside WWE and frequently made appearances for the likes of GCW and NWA among many others. As of writing, the star holds titles in both JCW and QPW respectively, although it’s seems unlikely he’ll be able to revisit these promotions before committing fully to WWE.
Discussing his return further, Cardona recently revealed how he acknowledged Game Changer Wrestling while putting pen to paper on his new WWE contract. You can read more about that here.
