Santana’s future remains uncertain following last night’s shocking title change.

With the ongoing collaboration between TNA Wrestling and WWE, former TNA World Champion Mike Santana has made several appearances on NXT, delivering impressive performances that have led many to speculate about a potential permanent move to WWE in the future.

Amid uncertainty over his status for tonight’s Turning Point pay-per-view following his loss of the TNA World Championship to Frankie Kazarian, PWInsider Elite are reporting that Mike Santana’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the year. While the 28-year-old is said to have an extension offer on the table, WWE’s interest in him is longstanding, though the existing working relationship between the promotions may remove the need for a full-scale departure at this stage.

“Santana’s current TNA deal is up at the end of the year. The belief is that he has an offer on the table from TNA for an extension. There has been WWE interest in Santana dating back months, but obviously, the two sides work together and it’s entirely conceivable they will work together as they did with Joe Hendry.”

PWInsider reported earlier today that Mike Santana did not appear at tonight’s Turning Point pay-per-view, with talent saying the former TNA World Champion has not returned the company’s calls. Sean Ross Sapp has since suggested that the situation is part of an effort to turn the backlash from last night’s result into a storyline. You can read more about that here.

Regarding speculation that Santana’s sudden loss of the TNA World Championship was intended to pave the way for a move to WWE NXT, PWInsider Elite’s report notes that no one from WWE has confirmed this.

The report also states that Santana has still not appeared backstage at tonight’s Turning Point taping, while noting a growing consensus that the situation is part of a developing storyline.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Mike Santana’s contract status as soon as we hear more.
