MJF has discussed his current contract and John Cena’s heel turn.
During his reign as the AEW World Champion, MJF would often reference his contract status with All Elite Wrestling, making it clear that his deal at the time was set to expire at the end of 2024. However, when he returned to the company at Double or Nothing last year, MJF indicated that he had re-signed with the company and wasn’t planning on leaving anytime soon. Now, he’s discussed more with regard to his current AEW contract.
Speaking to Sports Illustrated, MJF stated that the total amount of money he’s set to receive through his current deal with AEW ‘far surpasses’ $15 million.
“The amount of money that I get by the time it is over far surpasses $15 million. I am making top guy money whether it be an All Elite Wrestling contract or a WWE contract. I will say this: I am 28 years old. Every single top act in professional wrestling besides me is either in their late 30s, late 40s or early 50s. So, for the people who are panicked ‘oh my gosh, am I ever gonna get to see MJF outside of All Elite Wrestling? Am I ever gonna get to see MJF in this place, that place?’ Look, the reason I was paid top dollar is because I’m a generational talent. I won the bidding war. WWE didn’t win the bidding war. All Elite Wrestling didn’t win the bidding war. I won the bidding war cause I am making an absurd about of money, by the time the contract is up I will still be absurdly young and then I will be able once again to make an absurd amount of money in the next bidding war.”

Interestingly, MJF was also asked later in the interview to whether he’d seen the recent heel turn of John Cena. Here, he stated that he had watched Elimination Chamber and thought the moment was awesome, saying that those at the top of the industry should be watching as much wrestling as they can.
“If you are in the world of professional wrestling, if you are a top guy, and you don’t watch or consume as much professional wrestling as you possibly can, can you call yourself a student of the game? Can you say you’re giving your best foot forward? Can you claim to be one of the best in the sport? In my opinion, no you absolutely cannot. If you ask a WWE star ‘have you been watching AEW?’ And they say no, one of two things is happening. One, they’re lying through their f*****g teeth or two, they don’t care enough about this industry to study what’s going on in it.”

Touching on his longterm future, MJF noted that he has an age in mind that will act as a ‘definitive out’ for him in the ring. He elaborated that when he reaches that point he plans to stop appearing on TV each week, although he was keen to not rule out one-off appearances.
As for what’s next for MJF, the former AEW International Champion is set to face Hangman Page at Revolution on March 9.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on MJF’s contract status as soon as we hear more.
