MJF reflects on CM Punk’s words in AEW.
When it comes to CM Punk’s AEW run, a major highlight has to be his feud with MJF, with many excited by the prospect of them going back and forth on the microphone years before them finally came went toe to toe. However, now ‘The Second City Saint’ is back in WWE and has gone on to main event WrestleMania Saturday, a portion of fans are casting their minds back to when Punk made a dig at the multi-night event at a time when his on-screen rival was teasing a move to the opposing company. Now, MJF himself has reflected on how Punk’s words may have aged since his AEW departure.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, MJF noted that Punk’s current WWE run goes against what he said in AEW, emphasising that the Maxwell Jacob Friedman we see on-screen has remained the same.
“I mean, watch the tape. You tell me who got the better of who verbally during that entire rivalry. I hope he’s able to enjoy what he’s accomplishing over there. I have no idea, because the things that he said in my company do go against the things that he’s saying now. Some people might say that’s hypocritical. That’s not my place. All I know is since I’ve jumped into pro wrestling, I’ve been saying the same thing since the jump, my tune has not changed. I’m Maxwell, Jacob Friedman, and I’m better than you, and you know it.”

CM Punk and MJF first came face to face on November 24, 2021, edition of AEW Dynamite, and they’d go on to have two singles matches as part of their feud. They capped it off with their much-loved Dog Collar match at Revolution 2022, and Punk was gone from the company 18 months later. The Chicago-native now finds himself as the World Heavyweight Champion in WWE, being just a few months away from his title defence against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42.
On the topic of MJF teasing a WWE move during his feud with CM Punk, the star recently revealed whether the company is still interested in him after he extended his contract with AEW. You can read more about that here.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on both MJF and CM Punk as soon as we hear more.
