MVP reveals why WWE may not have wanted to make him a world champion.

In 2005, MVP began his WWE journey by signing a developmental contract. In his first run with the company, which lasted five years, he was able to pick up two stints as United States Champion and even captured the Tag Team Titles with Matt Hardy. However, the star was never able to win a world championship. Now, he’s discussed what he heard held him back in WWE.

Speaking to Chris Van Vliet on Insight, MVP said there was talk of him becoming World Heavyweight Champion, only stopped when they realised that his criminal convictions meant he couldn’t travel everywhere he’d be required to go.

“I don’t know this for an absolute fact, because I wasn’t in on the meeting, but I was told by some people that were. As a matter of fact, one of the writers, [said] there was talk about MVP being World Heavyweight Champion, but there was reservations because of my felony conviction. Because there were potentially countries that I couldn’t get into. So how can you be the World Heavyweight Champion, but you can’t go to this country?”

MVP also noted that those same travel restrictions were responsible for him not appearing at Forbidden Door, with his convictions preventing him from entering the UK. Still, he remains a key part of AEW and will be competing in a trios match against Ricochet and Gates of Agony at All Out.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on MVP as soon as we hear more.
