Oba Femi speaks on a possible match with GUNTHER.

The rise of Oba Femi has been a huge talking point among WWE fans since he won the NXT Breakout Tournament in January 2024. Soon after, the 26-year-old found himself as the North American Champion, going on to have a 273-day reign with the gold. Now holding the developmental brand’s top title, there seems to be no stopping Femi’s momentum. However, many fans can’t help but look forward to what may be awaiting Oba when he reaches WWE’s main roster, and the star has commented about the possible dream matches waiting for him on RAW and SmackDown.

Speaking to Going Ringside, Femi first registered his interest in a mammoth clash with ‘The Ring General’. However, he was keen to state that a match with GUNTHER would have to happen for the right reasons.

“It has to be for the right reasons. Not just because the fans said so. I have to want to fight Gunther. He has to want to fight me. There has to be a good reason. There has to be a good cause. It can’t just happen because fans say it’s a dream match.”

With John Cena currently on his retirement tour, Femi then noted that he’d be willing to help the 17-time world champion out the door.

“If I could catch John Cena… I’ll put him out, I’ll show him the door, he’s on the way out, so watch your step, you know? I would. CM Punk would be another good one.”

Expanding on a possible match with CM Punk, Femi discussed the difference in styles between he and ‘The Second City Saint’.

“Big man, different style. Smaller guy, but very experienced, and he’s carved out his own move set, and he’s well recognized within the wrestling ecosystem, and so am I. So those are the interesting scenarios. It’s limitless what we can do.”

To close, Femi talked about potentially retiring Randy Orton, saying that it’s time for new stars to rise to the top of WWE.

“I would definitely fight Randy. Just feel sorry for Randy, his back. I’ll show him the door too. It’s about time. I grew up watching those guys. I think they’ve been on top for a very long time and I think enough is enough. I think it’s time for the new crop of superstars to rise up to the top.”

As yet, there’s been no indication on when Oba Femi may arrive on RAW or SmackDown. Having most recently defeated Je’von Evans to retain his title at Heatwave, it doesn’t appear as if his run on NXT is ending any time soon.

Femi has previously claimed that a clash with GUNTHER would be ‘poetry’ although when exactly the dream match takes place remains to be seen.
