The 34-year-old has provided an update on his contract situation.
Despite being with All Elite Wrestling since the promotion’s inception, Ortiz hasn’t competed inside an AEW ring since January of last year, prompting many to question his current status.
Speaking to Wombreezy, Ortiz was asked about his AEW contract status, revealing that he currently has around one year remaining on his existing deal.
“As of right now, I have about a year left with the company. Give or take on this current contract. I would love to stay there. I love working at AEW. I’ve been coaching and doing producing, which is learning a different skill and will give you longevity. It’s also making me be a better wrestler because I’m helping people call matches and I’m analyzing it from a different lens. I’m really enjoying that. It’s something I wanted to do anyway, and now I’m getting the opportunity to do it there. Even if I stay on purely to do coaching and producing, and I can still wrestle, I’m happy. If they keep me, I would stay,”

Amid his absence from AEW television, Ortiz has remained active across the independent scene, working for promotions such as Beyond, C4, and CLASH, among others.
His last AEW appearance came on the January 20, 2024 edition of Collision, where he teamed with Eddie Kingston in a losing effort against the then-Blackpool Combat Club pairing of Bryan Danielson and Claudio Castagnoli.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Ortiz’s AEW contract status as soon as we hear more.
