Pat McAfee says Cody Rhodes proved WWE doesn’t need saving.

On April 3, Pat McAfee was revealed to be the man working alongside Randy Orton, with the former NFL punter claiming the wrestling business needed to be saved from the likes of Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. To much fan backlash, McAfee spent much of the road to WrestleMania suggesting WWE needed to harken back to the Attitude Era, but it now seems he’s been convinced by ‘The American Nightmare’.

Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, the 38-year-old said Rhodes proved that wrestling doesn’t need saving after all.

“I would like to let everyone know that although the mission was supposed to be Randy Orton saving the business, I think what happened instead was… Cody Rhodes proved he is the one, Cody Rhodes was obviously very admirable. Randy Orton is still everything that I said he was, but the good news is… business doesn’t need to be saved yet after all. And good for them.”

To open WrestleMania Saturday’s main event, Orton and McAfee launched a beatdown on the Undisputed WWE Champion. However, the former RAW commentator was quickly removed from the occasion, being put through the announce desk by Jelly Roll. While he re-entered the fold in the closing stages, McAfee took an RKO from his supposed ally before Rhodes secured the win, meaning Pat must now step away from the wrestling industry altogether.

While ‘The American Nightmare’ emerged with the title, viewers could see Rhodes was banged up by the end of the night. Having sustained an eye injury, more has emerged on whether Rhodes may have to vacate his gold. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on both Pat McAfee and Cody Rhodes heading out of WrestleMania 42 as soon as we hear more.
