Paul Heyman Says Bobby Heenan Is Not In His League As A Manager In WWE

Paul Heyman argues Bobby Heenan isn’t in his league.

Having been by the side of stars like Brock Lesnar, CM Punk, The Big Show, and more, few have the longevity of Paul Heyman. Many would argue the 60-year-old has built a case to be considered the greatest manager in WWE history over his 25 years in the company, especially given his prominence in the company’s programming today. However, another name that could be brought into the conversation is Bobby Heenan, who himself has a legitimate argument for being the industry’s best cornerman. Now, Heyman has directly addressed comparisons between himself and ‘The Brain’.

Speaking with VGC, Heyman expressed discontent at the debate between himself and Bobby Heenan, claiming his counterpart isn’t in his league anymore.

“He’s dead. What’s he gonna do? Come back and haunt you because you told the truth that he’s no longer the greatest? Let’s have this debate right now. I’m so sick of hearing that name. How many champions has Bobby Heenan managed? You can count them on one hand. Can’t count mine on one. You can barely count them on two. How many WrestleMania main events was he in? The only person that’s been in more WrestleMania main events than me is Roman Reigns. If you want to just say, ‘Well, that doesn’t count because you’re a manager, an advocate, a wiseman, an oracle.’ Okay, so let’s put it this way. I’m in people’s corners in WrestleMania. The number is ten. You know who’s second place? Stephanie McMahon. You know what number she’s at? Three. Please tell me how anybody measures up to my accomplishments. Where in the world can you say that Bobby Heenan’s even in my league anymore? I managed more champions for a longer period of time and a longer period of time within their title reigns than anybody else in history. No one even comes close. They’re not even in the same universe as me. So you genuflecting respect upon someone that is dead and whose numbers don’t match mine is like saying that your next door neighbor who just hit the million dollar lottery is in the same league as Elon Musk. They’re not, and Bobby Heenan’s not in mine either.”

-Paul Heyman

Heyman has been an almost ever-present figure returning to WWE in 2012. He began advocated for Brock Lesnar when ‘The Beast’ conquered The Undertaker’s undefeated streak, going on to capture seven further world championships, and also played a key role in CM Punk’s famous 434-day reign as WWE Champion.

In 2020, the legendary manager became pivotal in the company’s week-to-week programming as Roman Reigns’ wiseman, accompanying ‘The Tribal Chief’ in four straight WrestleMania night two main events until Reigns lost the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in 2024.

Speaking of Heyman’s connection to The Bloodline, he recently had high praise for Zella Fatu, urging WWE to sign him at the earliest opportunity. You can read more about that here.
