Where John Cena’s final match will fall on the card is reportedly yet to be decided.

With John Cena set to retire at tomorrow’s Saturday Night’s Main Event, many assumed his clash with ‘The Ring General’ GUNTHER would main event the show. However, on December 10, Bryan Alvarez indicated to subscribers on X that the 17-time world champion’s final match was instead slated to open the upcoming network special. Now, an update has suggested the company doesn’t yet know where the match will fall.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it’s believed the placement of John Cena’s final match hasn’t been finalised.

Whether Cena’s match goes first or last was still not finalized as of midweek.

Upon hearing that Cena could open the show, many wondered whether this is linked to a fear of time constraints, particularly as Goldberg’s goodbye to the WWE fans was hampered by the show’s hard out. However, it was clarified that tomorrow’s show can run as long as WWE would like.

This is being treated more like a PLE, as it has a two-hour pre-show and one-hour post show, unlike Saturday Night’s Main Events of the past in this run, which were just the two-hour presentation. There is no hard out at the two hour mark. It can go as long as they want.”

With it likely that wrestling fans from all generations will tune in to see John Cena’s final match, the rest of the card seeks to showcase some of NXT’s brightest prospects. The card features high-profile encounters like Cody Rhodes vs Oba Femi, Bayley vs Sol Ruca and AJ Styles and Dragon Lee vs Je’Von Evans and Leon Slater.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on John Cena’s final match as soon as we hear more.
