Return plans for Alexa Bliss have reportedly been stalled due to a contract issue.

Having last competed against Bianca Belair at 2023’s Royal Rumble, Alexa Bliss has now been out of action for over two years. In that time, the 33-year-old has gone through pregnancy and overcome health issues, it emerged back in November that WWE were believed to be gearing up towards her re-entering the fold around WrestleMania season. However, in an update to the situation, it appears plans for Bliss to return to our screens have been halted.

Per PWInsider, it’s believed that Alexa Bliss was originally set to return on the January 13 edition of Monday Night RAW in San Jose before the creative team were told to scrap all plans for the former five-time women’s champion. After initially being pitched to work with the Wyatt Sicks, the group were recently moved to SmackDown and it now appears any plans made for the them are unlikely to involve Bliss.

“WWE Creative has been told to put all plans for Alexa Bliss on hold indefinitely. We are told that initial plans were for Bliss to return at the Raw in San Jose, CA several weeks ago and that told a storyline involving The Wyatt Sicks had been pitched as part of that return. Instead, right before that event, creative was told to drop all plans for Bliss.”

The report goes on to note that creative plans weren’t a roadblock for Bliss as the star was ready to come back before plans were stopped. To provide some clarity, PWInsider would later say that the main issue preventing her return surrounds her contract situation with Bliss wanting a new deal while WWE were expecting her to come back under her existing terms.

“We have since confirmed that it is indeed a contractual issue: We are told that Bliss has been seeking a new contract, while WWE expects Bliss to return under the terms of her older, existing deal. Bliss was seeking a brand new deal (and obviously more money/perks) but WWE wanted her to return under her existing deal, which had been extended due to her time away from the company. We are told that when Bliss’ side dug in about wanting the new deal, WWE instead played hardball back, pulling plans for her return in San Jose and froze all the Bliss creative plans in carbonite.

With initial reports suggesting Bliss could return by WrestleMania, some may wonder whether Alexa could still be a surprise entrant into the 2025 Women’s Royal Rumble if things are worked out but it’s specified that she hasn’t factored into any creative pitches for the match and it’s unlikely that she’ll be involved as the two sides have remained at odds since the dispute.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the halted plans for Alexa Bliss’ WWE return as soon as we hear more.
