Despite being more involved in the world of acting than fighting these days, Randy Couture still has his feet firmly planted in the combat sports world. The “Expendables” star owns and operates a gym out of Las Vegas, where the former UFC Heavyweight Champion passes on his grapling knowledge to a host of celebrities.
One star that Couture has been more than impressed with is former AEW World Champion Jon Moxely, who Couture described in an interview with Comingsoon.net as having “assimilated” to the catch-as-catch-can training really well.
“He’s in there putting himself in situations not a lot of those guys want to put themselves in a real shoot gym with real catch guys. He was fun to work with because he had a real deep passion for what he was doing. I think he sees the roots of pro wrestling and where they came from, and catch-as-catch-can wrestling, which was a real sport in the early 1900s.”

Moxley’s MMA-influenced style has been clear to see since the former Dean Ambrose joined AEW, favoring bulldog chokes and rear naked chokes as opposed to the more high-impact moves he used in WWE. Additionally, Moxley has displayed his shoot-style effectively as part of GCW’s Bloodsport shows, where the promotions world champion holds a 3-1 record.
The Blackpool Combat Club member is set to face off against NJPW’s Hiroshi Tanahashi on this Sunday’s Forbidden Door event for the interim AEW World Championship, with an eventual showdown with CM Punk awaiting the winner.
